Ok, right out of the box this computer was a little sluggish due to the ASUS software that’s loaded. After I uninstalled it, this laptop showed some improvement. I know this is a very low-end laptop just to get you by, but I was just curious how far I can go so I downloaded a game called league of legends and it runs pretty good. I’m only on 3gb of ram I don’t notice anything really bogging it down through normal activities either. Another good thing is what ASUS provides is 1 year warranty and 1 year protection plan on this laptop so I’m really satisfied about that.

Got this laptop through Back2School Electronics. The order was processed and delivered quickly. Even though the seller did not send an email update when the order was shipped, the order arrived promptly and everything was fine.

Laptop fired up quickly and performed well. Tested the wifi connection (used internet from several locations) and the connection was very good. The laptop did not drop the connection any time (this was mentioned by another reviewer as a potential problem). There is no instruction on how to use the fingerprint reader (probably there is something somewhere on an online manual; yet to find it!). Also worked the dvd player with a CD. Playback and sound quality are very good.

Over 3+ hours of almost continuous use, the laptop remained very cool. In fact, the fan did not come on for most part. The laptop is very quiet and great to use during late evening! The disk action LED is on the left side — not very visible when you are using the laptop — so it is hard to know whether the laptop is doing any disk access, unless you turn laptop and look to left side. Key integrated indicator LEDs for wifi and speaker are great. Laptop was surprisingly light weight. Also the charger was very light (when compared to my 5-year old compaq laptop and its bulky charger).

I am very happy with the laptop. Also will recommend purchase from this seller.

First, I have to say that this really is a great device. It so far meets or exceeds all my expectations for a portable device. It is a small, light weight, fully functioning laptop, with excellent batter life. I actually bought this as a replacement for my iPad2 which I sold to help pay for this computer. I am happy with that decision in that this device adequately replaces the function of being able to watch full movies and TV shows while jetting around, and also has better functionality for other things like word processing, spreadsheet creation, and other things one might want to do on a laptop.

Honestly, the root cause of this purchase started with how satisfied I was when I got my iPhone. I had a Blackberry previously, and the difference in ease of use and overall user experience was incredible. It just made me a big fan of Apple. And it got me wondering if I would feel the same way if I switched to the Mac operating system instead of Windows (which I have Windows 7 on my home computer). Keep in mind I was not unhappy with Windows, but I was also not (I thought) unhappy with my Blackberry until I got an iPhone and found out how easy and enjoyable a smartphone is supposed to be. Although my impression of the Mac OS is not bad, it’s also not knocking my socks off. I have not found it to be a vast improvement over my Windows 7 experience. There are a lot of differences but also a ton of similarities (granted I do feel that Microsoft copied a lot of Apple’s early graphical innovations). Having tried both now, I think PC’s are probably a better value because you can get a PC based system that is perfectly adequate at a price point well below the lowest one offered by Apple (which is probably the Mac Mini). If you’re already planning to spend enough money to put you in Mac territory, then they are great computers. But if you just stretching your budget because you think the Mac experience will be vastly better than a PC, then I suggest you save your money.

After using the Samsung Chromebook for a few weeks, it’s really hard for me to want to use any of my other computers. It’s quick, it’s sleek, and it does most everything I need from a desktop/laptop computer without any extra annoyances.Admittedly, it took a little while to get used to the all-web interface (and I’m a very adaptable sort of cutting-edge guy). It was also a little bit buggy/beta at first, but I can’t really lower their score for that because Google was really responsive about fixing bugs and their first OS update had the fixes I needed. They always have a few new fixes and features coming through the pipeline.

Once or twice, since I’ve had the Chromebook, I actually had to log into one of my other computers (which had a really fast processor), and using any other OS provides a painfully slow experience. If you’re adaptable and open-minded to a new computing experience, I give this product my highest recommendations.

I ordered this computer and received it the next day.

This computer puts your money where it counts – on the processor. It’s the only one in its price range with a quad core. Other makers take a weak processor but put in a blu-ray player, USB 3.0, finger-print reader (seriously), or something else that I don’t really need. It’s made of plastic, so don’t expect it to feel like an HP or a Mac.

The keyboard is ok, but not great. I don’t mind it enough that I would buy an external keyboard, but my girlfriend has an HP Pavilion DV6(I think) and the keyboard is much nicer – it’s up to you what you care about. My computer has a better processor, even though hers cost $200 more.

The screen is good – as good as her HP.

I recommend buying a Logitech wireless mouse to go with it – the track pad is not very big. You can find them for $20 on here and they’re nice.

I ordered this laptop about 4 days ago and it has been performing excellently ever since.

Screen Quality (7/10):
Acer is not renown for their amazing laptop screen quality unlike Sony VAIO/Apple Macbooks, but why would anyone pay $500 more for a laptop just to have a better screen. This laptop actually have a better screen than my older Asus laptop by far.

Keyboard (10/10): 
Some people may complain that the enter key is connected to the backslash key(“\”), but I don’t see any problem with that because I don’t program with C++/Java so the backslash key is seldom used. The isolated island-like keys are very responsive and jumpy. This laptop has the best keyboard i had ever tested.

Graphics (8/100): 
I came in knowing that this laptop only have a integrated graphics card ( not discrete ). I don’t plan on gaming on this laptop; however, testing the graphics capability of this machine on a few STEAM games, I can run Left 4 Dead 2 on low setting which is good enough for me and Counter-Strike Source on medium setting. This machine can also run 1080p videos very clearly and smoothly.

Sound (9/10):
Although this laptop doesn’t have the best sound I’ve ever heard, it does come close to other larger entertainment laptops. So for a 14″ laptop, the sound is superior compared to other laptop in this size category. Thanks to the Dolby Home Theater software!

Heat (8/10): 
Unlike the Macbook pro, this acer laptop does have noticeable heat when placed on my lap for 3+ hours. But the heat bearable and is not very hot unlike some gaming 15.6″ laptops <– ( those can cause cancer on my thighs!!) Then again, i am paying $550 (after I resell the xbox 360 to offset the cost of this laptop) compared to a $1050 macbook pro!!

Battery (10/10):
The battery life is truly over 7 hours, I am squeezing 7-8 hours just from web browsing. So with Wifi off and low brightness setting, I am certain this laptop can last 9+ hours.

- The new USB 3.0 is incredibly faster but not 10x faster as it claims.(Maybe i need a USB 3.0 driver first.)I have not yet tested the bluetooth because I have no need for it, but Bluetooth 3.0 is very promising.

So for $700 – $150(from reselling xbox 360) = $550 , this laptop is an unbelievably great deal. You are missing out on an opportunity of a lifetime if you do not buy this laptop w/ the xbox 360 deal!!!!!!!!

Bought this laptop to replace my MacBook (original Unibody), which breathed it’s last. I needed a cheap laptop replacement in a hurry, since I’m working from home during a period of disability (knee surgery, I do software QA in the financial industry). Because of the urgent nature, I needed the cheapest laptop that would do the job.

I’m very pleased with this PC…the screen is big and bright, no anomalies, the Sandy Bridge i3 is responsive, even at a relatively low clock speed, and the graphics are fine for me (I’m a casual gamer. Very, very casual). Though the machine comes with some bloatware, there’s not a lot.

The keyboard is better than I expected. I do a lot of typing (and can do about 80 wpm), the keyboard is really important to me, and I never did care for the chicklet keyboard on the macbook. The Acer also has chicklet shaped keys, but they travel further than the macbook’s and have a much better feel. I can go at full speed on these, no problem. Build quality seems OK. I still prefer real concave keys, but these’ll do fine. BTW, there’s a full numeric keypad on the right side, which doesn’t matter to me but will make lots of accountants happy!

The trackpad was a real surprise…I’ve used lots of laptops with poor trackpads, but this isn’t one of them. Very smooth and responsive, multi touch/gesture, with a separate button bar underneath (though you can customize corner taps to simulate whatever you want).

There’s 3 usb-2.0 ports (one on left, 2 on right…my macbook only had 2), an hdmi port, memory card reader in front, tray loading dvd writer, hybrid audio out jack, audio input jack, and a lock port. Also an adequate video camera and built-in mike. One thing I like (as opposed to my old macbook) is that this laptop has meaningful lights on the front (battery, disk, power, network). Steve Jobs apparently didn’t think I’d miss them, but it turns out I did.

Haven’t pushed the battery to it’s limits, Acer lists it as 4.5 hours…nothing to write home about, but OK. The case is great…it’s black, but textured to be very attractive and have zero fingerprints.

No bluetooth here, by the way. I have some bluetooth accessories, but I figure I can always pop in a bluetooth USB dongle if I need. 320GB hard drive is fine (tiny bit clicky sometimes when reading/writing)and the 4Gb memory is more than enough. Both are easily replaced, if necessary.

In short, I’m really impressed with this machine for the price…I got a lot more than I expected. Quite a deal.

This is a great deal. I spent a long time researching laptops in the 500-800 dollar price range to figure out what the best fit for me would be. After comparing and researching for weeks, I randomly found this listing for this laptop one night, and purchased it 10 minutes later. Even though this laptop had only 10 reviews and less than 3 stars, my gut told me to go with it. And I’m glad I did.Now let’s get a few things straight right off the bat. It has no USB 3.0. It also has no WiMAX or WIDI capabilities.

That is the end of my cons list.

Now for the pros. For $529.00, you get:

-The latest Intel i5 processor with Sandy Bridge, running at 2.3ghz with turbo boost up to 2.9ghz. And it works fabulously.

-A 640gb hard drive

-A comfortable chiclet keyboard complete with a numpad.

-One of the best touchpads I’ve used on any laptop, ever.

-A 1-year standard warranty AND a 1-year accidental warranty. I love ASUS.

-A damn sexy computer.

Now I don’t know what the negative reviewers on this site are talking about. I have not once had “programs open at random” or anything of that nature. I have never once had a problem turning on or shutting down the computer, or lag of any sort. Then again, I did take the time to remove any programs I did not want when I received it, I created restore disks, and I configured my anti-virus properly. PCs with Windows these days are incredibly dumbed-down, user-friendly machines. Now I understand that not all people are technologically savvy. I understand that even with the user-friendliness of Windows 7 things can be extremely confusing, especially getting things setup for the first time. And that is fine. However, I think it is just plain silly and extremely misleading to rate a product 1/5 stars when the only thing that should be rated 1/5 is your own technological know-how. I’m sorry, I just felt like that needed to be said. Now back to the actual review.

This computer runs quickly, has a decent display, the hdmi works flawlessly, the Smart-Logon facial recognition works incredibly (you do have to set it up and configure it correctly, obviously), it runs as fast as you would think the i5 should, it looks SEXY AS HELL, it feels like it’s built like a tank, it has never once felt more than SLIGHTLY warm no matter what I’m putting it through, it connects to the internet 2 minutes after unboxing and is an overall GREAT DEAL.

If you are reading this review and considering this laptop, but are afraid to purchase it based on the negative reviews, I understand your concern. But I’m here to tell you that I had the same concern, purchased it anyway, and am very glad that I did. If you can do without USB 3.0 and WIDI/WiMAX capabilities, this computer is perfect for you. In my opinion, it is just as durably built, just as fast, just as nice as most $700.00 laptops I’ve seen recently. Don’t let the bad reviews steer you away. Read the good ones. I have been looking for a new laptop for a while now, and I happened to find this one on amazon. I couldn’t find too many reviews on it, but based on the specs that I saw I decided to buy it. This turned out to be a great decision. I am in the middle of high school, so I need something that will last a little while, and perform pretty well. This easily does everything that I need, and also has a surprisingly good battery life. This was the one thing that I was weary about when I bought it, but the battery lasts a good 5 hours on average for me, doing basic tasks, and some video watching. Considering the price, this is probably the best laptop you can find, even though it is a little bit obscure. It runs quite fast for me, and has everything that I could need in a computer.

This laptops is awesome.

This laptop has the sandy bridge version of the i3 which has really strong integrated graphics card. and very quick processor.

I was actually able to get around 35 FPS on Civilization V on low setting which means I could run smoothly at medium settings, which also means that you can play alot of other games like MW2, Fifa, NFS, Portal, Mirror’s Edge, Red Alert 3, and games at this intensity on low settings. Fifa will surely run on medium settings.

Aside from the specs, The touchpad is a little bit rough at first as if you’re touching very fine sandpaper, but after a while of use you get used to it and realize that it actually works better than glossy touchpads on other laptops.

Also the USB hubs are a little bit hard to get extensions in them, but for me that’s a plus so that the USBs don’t fall off easily.

The screen is really vibrant, although I haven’t tested it in direct sunlight. You will also notice that there is a lot of space beyond the display in the front (a good .5 inch on both sides and like 1.5 inches on the top.)

The speakers are actually really loud and crisp clear.

There is bluetooth built in. And there is two USB 3.0 hubs.

It ways a little bit more than your average 15.6 inch laptop, which I guess is due to the brushed aluminum finish on the back and surrounding the touchpad.

Overall this is the best laptop purchase I have ever made.
